www.chartanalytica.xyz is a web app analyzing trends in the way we consume music.
I used to check streaming and billboard charts pretty often. As a musician myself, it was interesting to look for trends in the way we listen to music. At some point, around 2022 or 2023, I started noticing that older songs were popping up on charts - for example, a song from 6 or 7 years ago would pop up occasionally on the charts after becoming a viral tik tok audio. I decided to quantify this to see how trends in our listening habits have evolved over time.
The data was assembled from this dataset by mhollingshead. Using Python, the dataset was broken into weekly chart instances, which would then be used for analytics. Each Track/Artist was then search via the Spotify API (using spotipy), to add the track ISRC, Spotify ID, and to pair the track with a relation of artist(s). Then, the data was enriched with track release date, and artist type (group/individual), artist country of origin, and artist year of origin, using the MusicBrainz API.
